Part 2
Canada geese in the Madison (AL) neighborhood of Heritage Plantation face year-round removal and killing—even as residents sue to halt the massacre. In March, the HOA voted to cull over 500 birds from four lakes; by June, they’d enlisted the USDA to carry out “goose removal services.”
Meanwhile, the current regime wants to gut the Endangered Species Act by redefining “harm” to mean only deliberate killing—erasing protection against habitat destruction. If they succeed, mining, drilling, wetland drainage, power-line collisions and land-development will skyrocket, dismantling the very safeguards that rescued species like the Whooping Crane from the brink.
In the 1940s, just 21 wild Whooping Cranes remained. Today, thanks to the ESA and tireless reintroduction efforts, there are nearly 700—but they’re still endangered and slipping back toward oblivion under these proposals.
All the while, HOA-sanctioned “assaults” on innocent wildlife become the norm. This is not conservation; it’s wholesale slaughter. We must stand firm. Urge your representatives to oppose the ESA rollback. Demand humane solutions for our geese- like in such an abysmal economy hiring people to handle the waste the geese put out. Defend every creature’s right to habitat, safety, and life. This is our call to action—let’s not fail them now.
